  18. Hello, All, especially Kelvin Smith & Terry Kennedy.

  20.         Frustrated with getting file transfers to work between RSTS and VMS 
  21. (i.e. the SET ATTRIBUTES OFF problem), I have been hecking around some with 
  22. trying to make the KRT version of Kermit to work on RSTS/E.  There are still 
  23. tons of unfinished bits, and rough edges, but I have successfully transfered
  24. binary files with attributes and ascii text files between RSTS and VMS 
  25. using it.  (Also, the spiffy new help is nice and fast, though inaccurate for 
  26. the RSTS version!)
  27.  
  28.         My questions are if I devote more time to this (it will require LOTS 
  29. more to make something suitable for any one else to use), will anyone care?
  30. Is anyone else engaged in anything similar; who I should be talking to?  Also,
  31. what should I call it?  (Right now, it is KRT, although it is at this point 
  32. completely incompatible with the real KRT, but K11 would imply compatibilty
  33. with RSX, which right now it isn't, and I don't have any way to test it with 
  34. either RT11 or RSX.)  If there is a groundswell of support, are there any 
  35. features that are desperately needed?

  37.         For background, I started with the K11 & KRT sources from Columbia,
  38. and merged in a few changes that I had originally gotten from Terry Kennedy's
  39. RSTS BBS several years ago (the X3.60 version)  I removed from KRT lots of
  40. stuff that was purely RT-11 related, and pasted in a bunch of stuff from K11
  41. that had been dropped from KRT (RMS handling, RSTS connect mode, file
  42. attribute handling, etc.)  I have only even attempted to build it with I&D 
  43. space; I think it might be getting to big to run otherwise.  (On the plus 
  44. side, I&D gives plenty of room for buffers; I have gottten it to send from
  45. RSTS to VMS with 2000 byte packets, although for reasons I haven't
  46. figured out yet (maybe just need to bump buffer quotas, or maybe flow
  47. control is getting turned off), I can't get it to receive with packets larger
  48. than about 600 bytes.  Still, this is much better than 90 bytes!)
